On November 10 Colombian students march for free higher education


About 600,000 students in 20 cities in Colombia from public universities protested Thursday November 3 against a bill privatizing public education in Colombia.

 "This act is to demand that President Juan Manuel Santos to immediately cancel the project that seeks to destroy our public education," said Sergio Fernandez, a spokesman of the National University students.

 The young people, after marching for five main channels, concentrated in the center of Bogota, where they protested against the Minister of Education because shecancel her participation in a debate on the proposed reform of higher education in a public university.


 In the center of Bogota, this activity was marked by folk dances, waving torches, and a "besatón" (hugs and kisses from students to other students and also to policemen).

 The movement will be repeated on Thursday November 10 at the Plaza de Bolivar in Bogota and in the main squares at each capital cities around the country to ask the Government for freequality higher education .
Maria Fernanda Campo, an industrial engineer from Universidad de los Andes, an expert in investment banking, former President of the Chamber of Commerce of Bogotá, Minister of Education, is the principal responsible for the student demonstrations in Colombia.
